The years following high school graduation were very full - - not like high school though. I had four kids (2 boys and 2 girls) and soon after, a divorce. Life was a challenge raising the children and working multiple jobs, but I did it!
Along the way I met my prince after kissing many frogs. Bob and I have been married for 25 years this July. Life has been very different with Bob. I didn’t have to work because we could manage on his salary. Believe it or not, he actually worked in Tucker for Lane Limited and retired in 2001.
We moved to Arizona shortly after Bob retired. We live in a Del Webb 50 Plus community that offers an active life style. I’m involved in quilting, glass fusion, stained glass and am just starting to get into making things out of clay. All these things are available to us in our community center where we can take classes and then use the facilities to make our projects from what we’ve learned. Between crafts and doing activities with all the friends we’ve made here, life is too busy for housekeeping and yard work - -sometimes cooking too. Seems like we eat out often. I guess this is as close to the good times I had in high school as is possible. For that I’m truly grateful.
Bob and I are very active in our church. Bob is in a men’s group that meets on Saturday mornings at McDonalds, a men’s group that meets Wednesday mornings in a bar and grille, and he teaches a couples Bible group on Thursday nights where we meet in each other‘s homes. I’m involved in a women’s group and of course, Bob’s Thursday group.
I do like to bake cookies, cakes and pies but am diabetic so Bob has to step up to the plate. I also have a specialty of making soup out of almost anything.
We have a travel trailer that we visit our kids with. Mine are in Georgia and South Carolina and Bob’s are in the Seattle, WA area. We visit each of our families during the summer so we can avoid some of Arizona’s hottest periods. We have 2 silky terrier dogs that we take with us in the trailer. One of the other things we do with the trailer is travel with several of Bob’s high school friends (he went to high school in California) each April or May. We visit a different place each year. Oddly enough, one of the couples we travel with lives in Columbus, GA - - we didn’t know that when we lived in Georgia. We made the connection when we had moved to Arizona and have regretted not knowing them all the time we were in GA.
I guess in closing, it’s been a busy 50 years and the time flies by so fast.. So much has happened and changed over the years. Does anybody else think we were lucky enough to live in the best of times? I sure do!
Can’t wait to see everyone and we are really looking forward to the cruise - - what a great idea!
Mary Ann passed in her sleep after a 3 months in home Hospice on July 13th 2022 She had congestive heart failure. She spoke of her Tucker High School classmates with the highest regard. She is missed, but flying high with the Angels
